About the Project
I have a passion for fine art and fine craft, and my two teammates on this group project obliged me by working on this website with me. All of the artists and the information on them are real. We had to do a lot of research, looking up information on the various artists and finding images of their work.I came up with the title, 'Brave Art World - contemporary art collection'. Obviously, it is a take on 'Brave New World' by Aldoux Huxley. I wanted a name that suggested these artists are on the cutting edge... that this is not a site featuring traditional art. Instead, it features new directions in art. I also wanted to put my favourite local artists into an international arena, because I feel their work is of that calibre and is worthy of being put on the world stage.
About the Site Features
This was initially a group project (there were 3 of us) from our Web Project Management course. We needed to create a complete Project Plan; including a Creative Brief, Competitive Analysis, and Target Audience complete with Personas. As well, we had to develop a Site Architecture document; with a Content Audit, a Content Delivery Plan, Site Map, wireframes, graphic design rationale, and more.My responsibilities on this site (apart from a lot of the research, and the various elements needed to create the Project Plan) were to create the logo, to create the graphic design, and to come up with the graphic design rationale (concepts and goals of the website, intended users). I also sliced and optimized all the images.
Since the original project in term 1, I have completely redone the site, styling as much as I could with CSS (cascading style sheets) with nary a table. The idea was to make it accessible for as many browser configurations as possible and on all major platforms, and make it comply with the standards for strict XHTML set by the World Wide Web consortium . I have optimized the site and tested it so that it works in all modern browsers including IE 6 for PC, Netscape 7 for PC, IE 5.2.3 for Mac, Safari for Mac, and Mozilla Firebird for Mac. It also works fine in IE 5 and 5.5 for PC, Netscape 6 for PC, and degrades nicely in Netscape 4 for PC and Mac.
