About the Project
The 'Brave Art World' logo, with its byline 'Contemporary Art Collection', was developed for a website featuring innovative, world class artists working in clay, glass, painting or sculpture. 'Brave Art World' is, of course, a play on Aldous Huxley's famous novel, 'Brave New World'. I felt that this name would properly convey that these artists are anything but traditional: they are risk takers, bravely exploring the boundaries of their artistic medium. They explore new ideas or new techniques and constantly challenge themselves with their art.
About the Approach
I wanted a logo suitable for the intended art audience of this contemporary art site. It had to have, I felt, both punch and panache, yet not be so overwhelming as to detract from the artwork. The indigo blue and lime green colours give the logo these qualities. The font I chose for 'Brave Art World' looks contemporary and 'techie' and modern, while the retro-style font of 'Contemporary Art Collection' provides a nice contrast. The byline looks as though it might be based on a handwriting style, so it also speaks of crafstmanship. Its retro nature hearkens back to the mid-twentieth century, which in many aspects was a golden age for contemporary design.
