About the Project
This logo was developed as part of a packaging project. The name 'Moderno Glass' is a fictitious one I came up with for this retro design. The product that I developed the packaging for was cocktail glasses from the fifties. 'Moderno' sounds vaguely Italian, and since Italian industrial design is widely regarded as modern, sleek, yet a little bit quirky, this seemed to be a perfect fit.
About the Approach
The logo had to effectively represent these wonderful, quirky 50s cocktail glasses of mine. It is such a 'retro' item, so it definitely needed a retro font. I looked high and low until I found the one here. The font is elegant, with a strong character that clearly speaks 'retro'. I took the 'm' and 'g', put them on a slant, scaled the 'm' up and the 'g' down and positioned them until they nestled together nicely, and then manually refined the join by altering the tail of the 'g' and the end of the 'm'. Once satisfied with how these letters went together, I added a small blue oval as a design accent.
