Boundaries Vessel
Boundaries Vessel | digital photo, words Detail Description

About The Project

This was an exercise in combining one strong photographic image with words of my choosing. The words should not be random: they should add another contextual reality to the photo and help to further communicate an idea, a concept, or even simply complement an image. I love words and language. I also have an abiding passion for fine craft, and I love the strong profile of this vessel. This made me think of boundaries... and with the war raging in Afghanistan and the war in Iraq looming just beyond, perhaps I was thinking of what separates one group of people from another.

About the Technique

I used Photoshop to enhance my digital photography (of course). I found a font that I felt reflected the phrase, but also worked well with the texture of the vessel. I wanted it to look integrated with the piece, rather than plopped on top. This meant playing to find just the right hue, and playing with modes to find which most sympathetically blended words to image.
