About The Project

The idea here was to combine at least two photographic images, and have them 'speak' as your self-portrait. One image I chose is an enigmatic, seductive, and mysterious one of me. The other one was taken during a session of the international folkdancing group I belong to, which speaks of another one of my passions. Since it describes another one of my passions, it also further describes what I am about and who I am. I liked the juxtaposition of the energetic dance pose with the one of me at repose. I also like how the two images give different fragments of me, at different times, at different states of energy. They play with the idea of memories: of memories I and others have of me. The fragmented images also conjure up the notion that we are multi-faceted human beings, but that the whole is more than the sum of its parts.

About the Technique

This was simply a matter of playing with modes in Photoshop, as well as opacities, and various colour tones. I tried to imbue the image with enigma. I wanted some subtlety. But I also appreciate the form of the limbs, and how they interplay with each other. An elbow in repose, another elbow in enthusiastic dancing...
