About The Project

The project theme was to create a poster for a fictitious youth crisis line. I chose the theme of gangs. I was looking for a hulking, threatening pose and a menacing presence. I tried to imbue it with a 'hip-hop' look, and visual cues suggesting conformity and identity.

About the Technique

I used a 'rotoscoping' technique. This is a technique where you bring in a photographic image, and you trace it with the drawing or painting tools of your software. I played a lot with various modes to get the variations, and also added different painting elements (the scratchy look) to further define the variations.
